If you follow my work you may have seen this little darling's baby brother's birth story a few months ago. Well, now it's her turn for her birth story of sorts. I was asked along to document the day she forever became a Hollifield. The day she was adopted out of the foster care system and legally born into this family. A birth story as important as any I've ever told.

The hustle and bustle, coupled with anxiety and excitement filled their home that morning. While at times frantic, I was blown away at the well oiled machine that was their household. Each person had a job to do, and lent helping hands where needed. To me this is a testament to the quality parenting Stephanie and AJ are providing these precious kiddos.

You see, they don't just talk about doing things to make the world a better place. They don't just talk about making other people's lives better. They actually live out loud, loving each other like Christ asks. They live it. They live His love daily in the way they love each other, and they live it by being shining examples of giving these adopted babes a life far better than the one they were born into.

Haley, you were blissfully unaware of the anxiety, worry, and fears that enveloped your mom and dad leading up to this moment. And rightfully so. You played with the microphone, and bounced on your daddy's knee. One day, soon, you will understand the love that surrounds you, not just by your family, but by all who are blessed to know your story!

In over 100 births, I finally got to see a baby be born en caul. This happens with the bag of waters is left alone or doesn't rupture before birth and the baby is born with some of the membrane covering a newborn's head and face. Birth with a caul is rare, occurring in fewer than 1 in 80,000 births. The caul is harmless and is immediately removed by the physician or midwife upon delivery of the child. (source wikipedia).

Many cultures through history view en caul births as "lucky", some believed it would bring fertility, protection from drowning, thus being prized and sought out by sailors, other's saw it as a form of supernatural protection. Needless to say regardless of folklore, it's a rare honor to witness a birth like this.

I call my self the PG rated birth photographer so there won't be an image of this moment, but It was thrilling to see not only for myself but for the momma, Lori, as well as the attending midwife.

Lori was the epitome of grace and strength... I am often taken aback as I watch women become mothers, and men becoming fathers, and kiddos becoming siblings. This family now has 3 gorgeous girls to love on. And goodness, were the older sisters SO excited to see their newest personal baby doll.

Fierce. Determined. Stunning. All describe Reagan during her labor and well into her journey of Motherhood. She was, and is surrounded by strong women cheering her on every step of the way. Some of my favorite shots from this birth are the moments shared between her and her sister and mother. Reagan I am so unbelievably proud of you. How you handled labor, the grueling days that immediately followed, and now watching you rock at Motherhood. Thank you for letting me be there to love on you, support you, and bear witness to you becoming a mom. Nellie is precious and she's so blessed to call you hers!

Each birth is different. It's like they come in all colors, in all moods. Marlena was a quiet warrior, the day was peaceful, the mood was light yet covered in anticipation. She and Johnny were surrounded by the love of family and friends. The time was passed laughing, telling stories, and making sure Marlena was comfortable and rested. And even with quiet labors, somehow, we all seem to come roaring into parenthood. Some with exhalations of pain and relief, and others like Marlena and Johnny with laughter and tears. What a joy it was standing by their side, and sharing the bedside with her mother as she watched her daughter become a mother. I mean, how is this even my job?! The blessings I am privy to are beyond measure. Thank you Marlena and Johnny. Hutch is perfection!
