Serendipity: The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

I wasn’t supposed to be able to shoot this birth. I already had THREE clients that month. But somehow, timing all worked out, and sweet Hudson was to be number FOUR. FOUR babies born within 7 days. Hudson, was one of two born within hours of each other. By the grace of God, both at the same hospital, mere rooms apart. One mom was 6 cm, when I was called into the OR with Tyson and Bekah. I managed to capture the entire birth, in what felt like a whirlwind. Upon returning to the recovering room, my other client was now 8cm and I waited anxiously for Bekah to get back into the room so I could at least grab some of her truly holding her son for the first time. They wheeled her in, handed her son to her and she and Tyson were one. All together, in one room, in one embrace. About that time I got the text that my other client was complete, so I rushed down the hallway for baby number two of the morning. In the organized chaos that was that morning, magic happened. Two different births, two different ways of coming into the world within minutes of each other, but at the heart of it all the same. Unconditional love. Families being made, and families growing.

The longer I do this, the more repeat clients I have... and this precious momma has had two very important firsts for me as a birth photographer. Her first baby was my first family centered csection, and this baby was my first csection with the use of a clear drape. I witnessed both births completely change the perception of birth for this mom and dad. The family centered csection created that physical immediacy, dad was able to cut the cord, mom instantly cradled her baby within her arms. And this birth, with the clear drape... it gave mom the visual of seeing her baby born. It removed that barrier, that mystery of birth happening to you. She lifted her head, looked past her tummy, and saw her child being birthed. No she didn't see anything she didn't want to, neither did dad, they simply watched their child come into this world, and truly there's nothing more amazing. My heart is encouraged and humbled to have been a front seat witness to the changes and choices that are being made available to these families. I'm so proud of our community!

It is with great anticipation that I FINALLY get to share this birth. And the reason I finally have permission could not be any sweeter! The Hollifields have been waiting to finalize the adoption of their second youngest, a mere 4 months older than her younger brother. Baby H, or should I finally say, precious Haley... officially OFFICIAL TODAY. I spent the morning at the courthouse to documenting the occasion, and it couldn't have been any sweeter! But consider this her official "Birth" announcement as well! Welcome to your forever family sweet Haley! The Lord could not have found a more perfect home for you, you are loved and blessed beyond measure!

So where do I even start with this birth?! Stephanie had hoped for her VBAC victory with this birth, her 3rd delivery. Unfortunately it wasn't in the cards for her, and in hindsight sweet Silas came earth-side the safest way possible given the thinness of her uterus. And boy, did he come into this world surrounded by love, and a head full of luscious hair!

Stephanie did however get the next best option which was a family centered c-section. I applaud St. Francis and their practitioners, specially Dr. Strozier, for giving these families such wonderful, and healing options. The drape was lowered, dad was able to cut the cord, and baby went straight to mom's chest for some legit skin to skin time. Mom and baby stayed together nearly the entire time she was in the OR. It's amazing the difference these small gestures make for these families. The inclusion, the bonding, the instantaneous relationships that are built! These little things, make all the difference in the world.

Join me in congratulating this amazing family on their TWO newest additions!

When you have a chance to photograph the birth of a couple you have been friends with for over 11 years, well, it's something special. I was there for the birth of their twins 3 years ago, but due to the circumstances and their gestational age of only 32 weeks, I wasn't allowed in the OR with them. So to be able to be there this time, to not only photograph, but also video this precious miracle's entrance was such a blessing!

Natalie and Jonathan, you both are such wonderful parents, and with the Lord's love and guidance you are raising 3 AMAZING kiddos!

It has been an honor being your friend all these years and watching the Lord move in your lives in such beautiful ways!
